Luc Normandin photoBio

Born in Saint-Jean, Quebec, I studied art at the now defunct Montreal Museum of Fine Art School of Art and Design.
I then commenced a free-lance career in illustration in 1977.
In these pre-internet days, this meant calling art directors to convince them to take a look at one's portfolio, and physically meeting, and showing the said portfolio!
My first assignments were illustrations for magazines and schoolbooks.
After a few years, I began to work more and more for advertising agencies in Quebec. I moved to Montreal in the early 80's.
One of the founding members of AIIQ (Quebec illustrator's association), I have been it's president for two terms.
(This association, with it's yearly "répertoire", an inexpensive alternative to other directories, it's then yearly shows, and other programs such as a free computer courses in the early 90's, the "portfolio evenings" and it's internet site, has been and still is vital to Quebec's illustration scene.)
In the 90's I shared a studio with other illustrators and frequently had to hire assistants to help me with now very heavy workload, mostly in advertising. I also enthusiastically plunged into the Mac, learning Freehand, Illustrator, and mostly Photoshop, as soon as it was released.
Photoshop then became my most important tool for many years, bringing me much work in the exhibition graphics field, realizing large format collages for museums around the world.
I moved back to Saint-Jean's countryside in 1996, with Josée Masse, a fellow illustrator and we started to work from home. I also tied up again with my brushes and paint that I now use in conjunction with Photoshop.
In 2004 I happily joined Three in a Box.
I am still living In Saint-Jean's countryside, and I still love my job. I have taken up Taichi, and make jewelry as a pastime. You can view (or buy) my jewelry here.
